Venezuelan midfielder Edson Castillo is still being tempted with opportunities that seek to take him out of Kaizer Chiefs after just a season at the club.

Castillo was in superb form during the first half of the season for Chiefs with five goals and one assist.

Those were performances that quickly won him over to the Amakhosi faithful, but with the club sinking in struggles, the Venezuelan has also disappeared from the goals and assists ranks.

However, what he had already done during the first half of the season and his reputation as a Venezuelan international have kept him relevant to transfer talks.

Long-standing admirers Zamalek have kept their interest alive despite concerns over whether they will be keen to meet his transfer value.

Castillo has another year plus an option on his contract, which means a fee must be paid to get him out of Naturena.

The idea of Egypt is to fast-track his movement to the Gulf Region market, where age is never an issue.

Castillo turns 30 on May 18 and, typical of South Americans, will be keen to make hay while the sun shines.

Whispers are that those that work around pursuing opportunities for the Venezuelan are aiming at the Gulf Region after being sounded out by a Saudi club that will improve on what he is getting at Chiefs.

However, that path could be laid down via Egypt, where he will familiarise himself with football in the Arab countries before going across the Red Sea.

At Zamalek, Castillo will be aided by that he will have a coach – Jose Gomes – who speaks a language that he can relate to.

There is a network of North African intermediaries who appear to have been given the go-ahead of throwing around Castillo’s name to potential suitors.

They have been given the figures of what deals to get as personal terms for the player.

Castillo has played in Azerbaijan and Mexico before.

The next transfer window has been identified as an opportunity to move Castillo, though all the tapping will ultimately depend on Chiefs.

Chiefs will have to agree on a transfer fee if Castillo is to leave while still under contract.
