Platinum City Rovers have welcomed former Kaizer Chiefs striker Collins Mbesuma's son Lineker at their training base in Johannesburg.

Mbesuma Jnr is still looking for his first professional contract after receiving a national team call-up for the Zambian U17 squad for the Africa Cup of Nations last year.

The 16-year-old striker, who has been part of SuperSport United and the Bidvest Wits academy, in the past was registered with Jomo Cosmos last season.

Lineker Mbesuma is now looking forward to impressing Rovers coach Tlou Segolela and replicating the success of his father ‘Ntofontofo’ during his heyday at Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in South Africa.

Among his accolades in Mzansi, Mbesuma Snr won the PSL Player of the Season award at the end of the 2004/05 season having scored an incredible 35 goals for Amakhosi, perhaps a shadow his son will have to live under for the rest of his footballing career.

“The boy is here. He is working hard at training. So far, so good. The technical team has not yet indicated if they would sign him this season or not,” said a source at Platinum City Rovers.

Meanwhile, the club  has decided against signing former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Joseph Molangoane, who has been training with the team for the past two months.

“Joseph is no longer training. He left the club a few weeks ago,” added the source.

However, the Motsepe Foundation Championship outfit, who are lying in 15th place on the log standings, is still currently assessing former Orlando Pirates midfielder Nkanyiso Zungu.
