After being named in Cameroon's final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, a certain 17-year-old star has caused a stir on social media due to his age seemingly not matching his appearance. Here's a look!

What's the story?

Wilfried Nathan Douala, a teenager who was called up to the Indomitable Lions Afcon squad earlier this week is now trending for some rather unusual reasons.

The Cameroon federation (FECAFOOT), claims the player was born in 2006 and he will make his international debut aged 17 if he features at the upcoming tournament in the Ivory Coast.

Some on social media have since questioned his appearance given his age, with others claiming that he doesn't look as young as he is. Douala is a central midfielder for Victoria United in the Cameroon topflight. Very little is known about him given that he recently emerged onto the scene.

Meanwhile, the four-time African champions will look to win their first continental title since 2017 under then manager Hugo Broos. Their squad in headlined by Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana and Vincent Aboubakar of Besiktas - who won the Afcon golden boot in the previous edition.

There was no room for Bayern Munich striker Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting in Rogobert Song's squad. According to the Guardian, Song explained the shock omission of the centre-forward: “Choupo Moting is a very good player.

“But my staff and I want the continuity of recent times. He is an important player, but we had to make a choice in line with what we have been doing for some time now.”

Onana, meanwhile, has reportedly pleaded with FECAFOOT to allow him to join the squad at a later stage rather than at the beginning of their training camp in early January.

Cameroon's camp will be based in Saudi Arabia but Onana wants to remain at Old Trafford until the club's FA Cup game against Wigan Athletic on 8 January.
